Dearest Auntie As I am sure you have heard, President Lincoln has freed the slaves in the rebelling states ! Isn’t it wonderful? Though I am fairly mad that the slaves in the border states have not been freed . But we don’t want the border states to rebell, so I guess it is for the best. The boys in my regiment have been putting on plays and making up games to pass the time . It has been most exciting to see what they have come up with, and I too have started to join in on the fun. And every night they play music and sing songs to lift their spirits . But I do wish we could see more action, than sit here in the mud. I hope to hear from you soon. Sincerely Cathy

Dearest Auntie All is well on the southern front, not a lot has been happening at my post and moral is very low at the moment. The other soldiers have started putting on little plays in their free time. Most of the story’s are quite interesting and a good way to pass the time. I have made many friends and have gotten to know my captain, Bruce Stanton. He is a fine man of military intelligence and leadership, he also figured out my identity but has sworn to keep my secret.
