Dearest Auntie
It is nice to hear from you, and to know that you are doing well. I apologize as I have not been
writing to you lately. My regiment has been on the move constantly since General Grant took over
the military. But it is to be expected. We’ve been moving through the states and will hopefully be in
Virgina by days end tomorrow. I don’t know how the people down here can stand the heat
in the summer, or all the bugs that live here either. I miss the house, I miss you, I miss uncle Michael and
his stories of far away places and people. Hopefully this war will be over soon and I can return home.

I love you dearly
Sincerely Cathy
