Letter home

Dearest Auntie,
I know it’s only been a few weeks since I’ve left but I miss you so much. When I go to sleep I keep thinking I’ll wake up and see you, and be able cook and talk with you for hours. But I’ve been trying to set those feels aside. Ever since I’ve joined the Union army I’ve felt more and more alone. Every day brings new fears, excitements, and dangers in all forms. Recently people have been leaving my regiment claiming “they would rather be home with their wife’s and family’s” and I can understand that. The food here has gone bad and all I can think of is your special Potato Bacon Soup. I miss you so much. I’ll write to you again, that to you I promise.

Yours truly Cathy.
